Violating kindergarten suspended: Ministry

A kindergarten in the Capital was recently suspended by the authorities for violating safety and security conditions.

The institution apparently consisted of dilapidated walls and was given a ten-day period by the authorities to rectify the violations.

This came in a statement issued by Education Ministry yesterday, announcing that it decided to temporarily shut down “Kul Al Atfal- All Children” Kindergarten in Abuasheera area, close to Zinj.

“The decision was taken on January 17 as a result of the continuous violations of the kindergarten to the licensing regulations,” the ministry clarified, adding that “the violations were repeatedly detected during visits of the Kindergartens Directorate officials to the establishment.

The statement mentioned that the detected violations included “consisting of dilapidated walls inside the kindergarten, sharing a ramshackle wall with a nearby abandon land that contains building materials and consumed electric extensions, using a nearby land as a warehouse and not a playground as mentioned in the institution’s plan and consisting of bare electrical extensions on the walls.”

The ministry added that the violations also included “not committing to the ministry’s schemes to use the building by utilising the computer room as a television room, changing the teachers’ rooms to a kitchen and the watchman’s room to a warehouse.”

In the statement, it warned the kindergarten that “in case the violations were not rectified within ten days, further legal procedures would be taken against the administration of the institution. It may be shutdown and withdrawn from its permit.”

The ministry also stressed that “there is no compromise on children’s safety.”

The kindergarten’s administration could not be reached for a comment.
