Providing safe haven: 1 jailed

A person who allegedly provided safe haven for five fugitives was handed down three years behind bars.

The accused reportedly leased his apartment in the village of Ma’ameer to the five convicts who were sentenced to life in prison, each in connection with security cases.

The five were arrested following a tip-off to police, and the accused was later busted and tried on charges of sheltering fugitives.

“I lived in the apartment for seven years with my ex-wife. We divorced last March because of various personal issues,” he told prosecutors.

“I met two of them (the fugitives) and agreed to offer them the apartment for BD100 per month. One of them was nicknamed “Al Wahshi”, and I discovered that they were wanted in some cases, though I didn’t know their nature,” he added.

“They told me that they were bringing three more poeple later,” he stated.

He also admitted to having dinner and lunch on daily basis with them.

“But I received the rents for only two months, although they stayed for five months,” he concluded.
