Murder case verdict on Feb. 3
A teenager accused in connection with killing a youth, who was in his early 20s, will learn his fate on February 3.
The 19-year-old defendant claimed earlier that he had stabbed him to death in his chest after the latter sprayed foam material on his face.
According to the defendant’s statement, their jokes snowballed into a quarrel while a religious celebration was taking place.
“I filled my palm with flour and poured it on him after he had sprayed the foam. But in response, he attacked me,” the defendant told prosecutors. “I returned to my car and took out a knife and I stabbed him.”
The defendant was with his friend during the time of the incident and the latter claimed that he had wanted to block his way when he saw him holding a knife, but the teenager threatened to stab him too.
“When the fight erupted they went behind the car and they were attacking each other. Suddenly my friend (the defendant) came and went to the car, grabbed a knife. I went to him in a bid to hold him back, but he threatened that he would stab me if I touched him,” the friend told prosecutors. The defendant surrendered to police soon after the youth was declared dead.
The Northern Governorate Police Directorate said in a statement earlier that a call was received by the police from the Hamad Kanoo Health Centre about a person, who was stabbed in the chest and died.
“A crime scene investigation unit and forensic team were immediately sent to the location to collect evidence,” it explained.
“The prime suspect in the case surrendered to the police and the case was referred to the Public Prosecution,” the statement added.
