Gulf Air Passenger Questioned on Terrorism Suspicions
A suspected terrorist was apparently questioned in London while travelling on a Gulf Air flight that was flying from Bahrain, it has emerged.
According to reports, the incident took place on Tuesday, as soon as the Gulf Air flight landed at Heathrow Airport.
“Gulf Air can confirm that flight GF007 was met by London Police upon landing into London Heathrow on Tuesday January 12,” an official Gulf Air Spokesperson confirmed to DT News.
The spokesperson said, “The authorities did not board the aircraft but were positioned at the aircraft bridge in order to question a passenger,” adding that “the airline cannot comment further on such matters.”
The drama apparently started when the pilot repeatedly called for a passenger with an Arabic name to speak to the cabin crew, once the plane landed.
Quoting passengers on the flight, British daily Daily Mail reported that “when the mystery man refused to make himself known, police armed with pistols rushed on board as the plane waited outside Terminal 4.”
“Then police came on board shouting the name of the man they were looking for. He didn’t come forward so they went up and down every seat trying to identify him,” passengers told the British daily.
However, in the British report, it was mentioned that the incident happened on Wednesday January 20, while the airline’s reply confirmed that it took place on Tuesday January 12.
No further information was available on the man that was apparently questioned by the British authorities.
DT News reported last November that lawmakers are seeking providing the national carrier with secret security agents to “ensure that no kidnapping incidents or terrorist activities target the safety of passengers.” Anyhow, the decision remains only a proposal until it’s granted further approval from higher authorities.
