38-yr-old lands in jail for driving sans licence

An Asian national implicated with running a bus without the required licence has been sentenced to one year behind bars.

The 38-year-old defendant was serving as a mechanical technician in a transportation company, and he initially accused his Bahraini supervisor of compelling him to drive the vehicle. The employee, who used to drive it, was earlier sacked and deported.

The supervisor was tried, but the High Criminal Court acquitted him due to lack of evidence.

The Asian man’s misconduct was found by police when he got involved in a road accident in Isa Town.

He reportedly showed them a driving licence belonging to another man.

“My manager told me to go and drive the teachers to their homes. When I told him I didn’t have a licence, he gave me one and asked me to go,” the accused told prosecutors.

“He threatened to sack me and deport me if I refused to follow his order. He told me to present the licence he had given to me, in case police stop me,” he added.
