Closing arguments in terror case on Feb 3

Closing arguments will be heard on February 3 in the trial of 17 men suspected of receiving overseas financial support to make bombs to target police officers.

The accused, according to the Terror Crimes Prosecution, formed a terrorist group to make improvised bombs and weapons to carry out attacks in the Kingdom.

The group was dismantled in February last year, according to court files.

The first and second accused, who are living abroad, allegedly oversaw the group’s activities and are responsible for financing it. They are being tried in absentia.

The group allegedly detonated bombs across Maqaba, Janabiya, Budaiya as well as Qurayyah, injuring a number of policemen, according to a statement issued earlier by the Terror Crimes Prosecution.

The same statement also indicated that eight members of the group were captured, while nine of them, including the first and second suspect are still large.
