Cancer Society launches Gulf Cancer Awareness Week

Bahrain Cancer Society in cooperation with the Bahrain Medical Society announced the launch of the Gulf Cancer Awareness Week, which begins from February 1 to 7, which is organised by voluntary associations from the GCC States in collaboration with the Gulf Centre for Cancer under the slogan “40pc protection and 40pc healing.”

The Bahrain Cancer Society revealed that the participating committees had prepared a series of events for the campaign, which include “Together Against Cancer” programme in cooperation with restaurants, which will donate by a adding one dinar to every bill.

There will also be an event to light famous building in Manama Capital in purple, which symbolises all types of cancer in the campaign. 

Other programmes include The Bahrain Cancer Society Annual Bazaar at the Alumni Club and the Walkathon, which begins on February 6.

Dr. Abdulrahman Fakhro, Chairman of Bahrain Cancer Society said that the Society takes great importance in the educational programmes organised for the citizens and residents of all age groups to promote awareness and reduce the risk of cancer, stressing on the importance of uniting efforts and solidarity between citizens and sectors to fight this incurable disease.

Dr. Fakhro explained that the goal of this campaign is to promote health awareness and the protection of society from the risk of cancer.

He mentioned that the slogan “40pc protection and 40pc healing” was chosen because of scientific evidence that suggests 40pc of cancers can be prevented by following a healthy lifestyle, while the other 40pc can be cured if diagnosed early and with appropriate treatment.
