Bigs set to return with garden galore

Manama

Under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the continued support of Wife of HM the King and President of the Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) HRH Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) 2016 will be held at the Bahrain International Convention and Exhibition Centre from February 24 to 28, 2016.

BIGS, which is an annual event, will be organised by NIAD. The theme for the next edition of BIGS is “Tree care”, NIAD Secretary-General Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa said at a Press Conference at Bahrain International Convention and Exhibition Centre yesterday.

“We will focus on tree care to preserve the wealth of flora planted by our ancestors. We plan to highlight best practices in tree care including: pruning, structural support, safe tree movement, treatment for insects and disease, and nutritional problems. The upcoming show will host a number of experts in the field to share their skills and experience. We aim to spread the knowledge about such practices in order to preserve, sustain and increase the productivity of our trees,” she elaborated.

“The event is the perfect opportunity for business and service providers to increase their customer base and connect directly to the public. It also presents opportunities for local businesses to form partnerships with international counterparts. Whether you are an expert in the field, or an agricultural business owner or a garden hobbyist or a lover of greenery, you will always find something that interests you at BIGS,” she added.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) participates annually in BIGS, while Tamkeen also continues to support the event, organizers stated.

During the past years, BIGS has attracted exhibitors from many countries in Europe, America, the Far East, and the Middle East. Visitors of BIGS include architects, consultants, developers, hobbyists, consumers and lovers of gardening.

Alongside BIGS, Bahrain Garden Club will conduct their Annual Flower and Vegetable Show.
