Classrooms for students with special needs announced

New classrooms for students with mental disabilities will be opened in three public schools in the upcoming academic year 2015-16, Education Ministry announced yesterday.


According to the ministry’s latest statistics, 59 public schools accommodate around 8931 students with disabilities, within the ministry’s programme to integrate students with special needs in public school.


Education Minister Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi confirmed yesterday the three schools are Abdulrahman Al Nasser Elementary and Intermediate Boys’ School, Abdulrahman Al Dakhel Intermediate Boys’ School and Riffa Intermediate Boys’ School.


Dr. Al Nuaimi also announced a new classroom for autistic children will be opened in Umm Al Hassam Elementary Boys’ School. He confirmed the step comes to provide an appropriate educational environment for children with disabilities.


The minister explained the schools have been facilitated with special equipment including ramps, signs written in Braille alphabet for the blind, special specs and hearing aid, in addition to providing specially trained academics in each school. The ministry earlier announced it added 11 buses for students with disabilities.
