Panel calls for Works Ministry’s cooperation
The Investigative Committee in Parliament has called for the cooperation by the Ministry of Works in the probe into the issue of awarding advertising contracts to foreign firms.
The move comes after Bahraini companies questioned the transparency of the current procedure adopted to issue advertising contracts.
Speaking to DT News following a meeting yesterday, Investigative Committee Chairman Jamal Bu Hassan said there was no response from the Ministry though the panel had sent letters.
He said the local firms needed support from the government as Bahrain was already facing economic problems in the face of sharp fall in the oil prices.
Referring to the billboards of foreign firms, he remarked that it was the committee’s responsibility to protect the rights of local companies.
“Why were the foreign companies given preference over the Bahraini companies while both enjoyed the equal standing in the market?” he queried.
