Blast case: Witnesses to testify on Feb 22

The High Criminal Court has directed police witnesses to testify in the Abu Saiba blast case on February 22. A police officer was killed in the blast, according to the court statement. 

A total of 32 suspects have been charged in connection with the blast. However, only 20 are in police custody.  The others, who are still at large, will be tried in absentia. 

The accused have been charged with murdering an on-duty cop, establishing a terrorist cell, detonating an explosive, possessing explosives, hiding fugitives and damaging private and public properties.

Two bombs went off in Abu Saiba area on August 28 last year, resulting in the death of a police officer, as per court files. 

The blast has also injured several other officers and civilians who were in the area as well as damaged a police patrol vehicle and some civilian cars.  The defendants were sent for trial based on evidences collected from the crime scene apart from their confessions as well as testimonies of the witnesses.
