Shaikh Khalid attends donor conference

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, along with world leaders took part in the international conference on Supporting Syria and the Region, which was co-hosted by the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, and the Amir of Kuwait, Shaikh Sabah Al Ahamd Al Jaber Al Sabah.

The conference, held in London, UK, aimed to provide financial support and create future horizons for Syrian immigrants in the region.

Shaikh Khalid expressed the keenness of Bahrain, and through the Royal Charity Foundation, to provide diverse humanitarian aid to the Syrian brothers and to contribute to the alleviation of the humanitarian situation.

The Minister said that participation in this conference reflects the interest of Bahrain to reach a comprehensive and appropriate solution to address the issue of refugees.

Shaikh Khalid praised the great efforts of Jordan, Turkey and the Lebanese Republic to contain the Syrian refugee crisis.

The minister noted that this conference is an important step to support the refugee issue, and motivate the international community to make greater efforts towards increasing aid and coordinate its efforts to provide various kinds of care and support for countries hosting Syrian refugees in the region. The minister also urged the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions concerned with the humanitarian situation in Syria, in order to ensure the stability of the region and the world as a whole.

On the sidelines of the conference, Shaikh Khalid met with the UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Philip Hammond, and discussed firm bilateral relations and means of bolstering cooperation at all levels.
