BCS organises awareness walkathon
Bahrain Cancer Society (BCS) organised an awareness walkathon at Ritz Carlton Spa and Hotel in Seef District yesterday. The main aim of the event titled “40pc Prevention 40pc Cure Cancer Walk-A-Thon,” was to highlight the importance of regular check-ups and to detect cancer in its early stages.
Scientific evidence suggests that 40 per cent of cancer cases can be prevented by following a healthy diet and lifestyle, regular physical exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, getting regular medical check-ups, taking cancer screening tests and abstaining from tobacco and alcohol. While the other 40 per cent can be cured by if diagnosed early and the right treatment is provided at the right time.
Educating the community about the risk factors that lead to cancer is a fundamental pillar of the cancer prevention, the organisers said.
Middle East Medical Centre (MEM) provided medical support at GCC Bahrain Cancer Society’s Awareness Walkathon. It’s for the first time that all the GCC countries joined hands to spread cancer awareness. MEM team supported more than 500 people that received free Blood Pressure check-up, Diabetic check-up and consultation by specialist Doctors, who came to support this noble cause.
