Robbery: Jail term upheld
Two Pakistanis convicted of robbery have had their jail terms and deportation order upheld. They were earlier handed down 10 years behind bars each. The Pakistanis, aged 25 and 23, reportedly robbed a local Dairy Queen’s branch, where the 25-year-old defendant was working.
In the armed robbery, carried out on July 26, 2014 at 5.45 am, they made off with BD3200. According to court documents, the duo planned to carry out the attack together, during which they held a Filipina cashier at knife-point. The latter said she had received a call a few minutes prior the attack from the 25-year-old convict, who instructed her to open the door of the restaurant as someone was bringing some belongings to the branch manager.
“I was in a very bad financial situation and I came up with the idea to rob the restaurant to get some cash,” the 25-year-old said in his statement before the Public Prosecution. “I really needed the money and a friend (the second defendant) agreed to help me. “After the robbery, we split the money between us.”
