Ex-Shura member faces travel ban
A former Bahraini Shura Council member was added to the travel ban list after failing to settle accumulated debt of a restaurant that he was owning, according to court files.
The debt was standing at BD25,000, and the former member was denied leaving Bahrain through the Bahrain International Airport because of a lawsuit lodged against him by creditors.
He, however, told the court that he sold the restaurant long time ago. “I was going to travel on a business trip, but I was surprised to be placed on the travel ban list. I inquired about the reasons, and they told me that my formerly-owned restaurant had accumulated debts. And creditors have filed a lawsuit,” he told judges at the court yesterday while presenting documents supporting his claims. “I was the owner of the restaurant, but I sold it and am not responsible for the accumulated debts,” he added.
