Causeway lanes to be increased from 17 to 45

The number of lanes on the King Fahd Causeway will be increased to 45 from 17, representing an increase of 120pc to 132pc, as part of an expansion plan expected to start within six months.

To reduce the waiting period, there will be two lanes for each entrance leading to eight cabins. This will facilitate the movement of traffic between the Customs and the passport cabins. This capacity can be increased by raising the number of cabins in the future.

In a meeting yesterday,  Interior Minister Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa was briefed on the upcoming development plans for the causeway and the technical studies of the project’s phases to increase the capacity of its lanes.

The General Organisation of the King Fahd Causeway Director-General  Abdulrahman bin Saad Al Yahya, Customs President Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and Chief of Public Security Major-General Tariq Al Hassan also attended the meeting.

Praising the strong Bahrain-Saudi ties, the  Minister appreciated the organisation’s efforts in developing services and projects to facilitate traffic on the causeway.

Al Yahya thanked the Interior Minister for his dedication to implement the organisation’s development projects and the support of the Interior Ministry.
