Members of terrorist group land on cop net

Ten men suspected of being members of the so-called Saraya Al Ashtar (Al Ashtar Brigade) were arrested here yesterday. Terrorist group Al Ashtar Brigade had claimed the responsibility of several bombings erupted across the Kingdom of Bahrain after the 2011 unrest.
In one of the most deadliest bomb blasts, three policemen were killed on March 26 last year. Terror Crimes Prosecution Ahmed Al Hammadi announced yesterday in a statement that the men were involved in several blasts occurred between 2013 and 2015.
Al Hammadi, however, stated that “four other men were identified as members of the same terrorist group, but they are still at large.”
“Two of the fugitives are living in Iran, and they were responsible of the recruitment process, and they inducted the suspects into the group,” Al Hammadi explained.
According to him the suspects had been trained in Iraq on bombs and arms manufacture “deliberately targeting police officers.”
“The men were involved in several explosions happened in Sanabis, Daih, Budaiya, Shakhura, Muqsha, Diraz, Hamad town as well as a local shopping mall,” he said.
The blasts resulted in injuring numerous members of the security forces as well as causing damage to two police patrol cars and a car belonging to a civilian.
The defendants have been accused of forming and joining a terrorist group, attempting to kill police officers, possessing explosives, triggering bombs and training on how to use bombs.
The arrested defendants will remain in police custody for 15 days, pending further investigations, according to the statement.
