Bombing case: Closing arguments on March 27
The High Criminal Appeals Court has adjourned the trial of 11 Bahraini men convicted in a bombing case to March 27 for the closing arguments. Ten of the defendants were earlier handed down 10 years behind bars, while the remaining man was jailed for one year only.
According to the case file, two Bahraini youths were killed when a car exploded in Muqsha in April, 2014. The two along with a third suspect were reportedly trying to use the car to target policemen stationed in a Budaiya Highway.
The third suspect has survived the explosion with injuries. Eleven defendants were earlier sent for trial in connection with the case, but only five of them have been nabbed, as the remaining accused are still at large.
One of the accused had earlier told prosecutors that they were planning to detonate the bomb in Muqsha after they lure police officers into a nearby area. Moreover, the injured accused told prosecutors that the deceased requested him to construct the bomb.
The 11th accused was given only one year in jail as the High Criminal Court has found him guilty only of providing a safe haven for “wanted suspects”, according to the court verdict.
