Drug transport: Thai women get five years
Manama
Two Thai women have been jailed for five years each for ordering drugs through express mail. Their offence came to the light after the customs officials operating the CT scan noticed the drug hidden in a cat toy, which came to Bahrain through the express mail.
The toy was stored in package shipped from Malaysia and was registered under a Bahraini citizen’s name. When the recipient came to accept the package, she was arrested by the officials. However, he affirmed that he was only assigned to deliver it to a Thai woman and expressed his desire to help police to capture her.
Police swooped in to arrest the woman, and entered her home in order to conduct a raid. The two defendants were found inside the apartment with tools used in consuming drugs and prepare them for selling purposes. The woman who was nabbed receiving the package was sentenced to six months on charges of drug consumption. She was also fined BD100, while the other two women were given heavy fines of BD3000 each.
The defendants told prosecutors that their ‘friends in Malaysia’ sent the drugs to them upon their request through the express mail.
