MP censures EU remarks on Bahrain

Taking a pot shot at the European Parliament for its comments on the credibility of the Bahraini judiciary system, MP Mohammed Al Jowder yesterday reiterated the Kingdom’s stance of rejecting such “one-sided reports.”

“They adopted false information provided to them by a group of individuals, who escaped to Europe after failing to sell their country to foreign ambitions,” Al Jowder said, hinting to the repeatedly occurring Iranian hostility against Bahrain through alleged Bahraini activists.

Al Jowder remarked that they (European Union) were keen on the joint efforts with the GCC States and Bahrain to combat terrorism in the world. “Surprisingly, they call for the release of terrorists, who harmed their countries and killed policemen and caused the loss of innocent lives here in Bahrain.”

“When the old continent was hit hard by terrorism lately, the Kingdom of Bahrain was among the first to stand by it and condemn the ruthless terrorist attacks. We supported their counter-terrorism procedures to ensure security and never interfered in their judiciary affairs in this regards,” said Al Jowder, who’s also a member of the Council of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee.

He added: “Bahrain is a country of peace and an old friend of the European continent. It’s important that we’re treated similarly and that our sovereignty is respected.”

As reported earlier, the European Parliament last week passed a resolution rejecting and criticising a death sentence issued by a local court against a terror suspect who was apparently involved in the killing of a policeman.

“The person mentioned in the resolution participated along with a terrorist group in detonating a bomb in front of a worship place, resulting in the death of a policeman. He was sentenced to death by an independent judicial system and was provided with all of his rights without any violations,” another parliamentarian explained last week.
