Indian’s Bahrain thriller to be released today

ManamaChandan Sengupta’s Land of Two Seas, a thriller set in Bahrain during World War II, will be released today at Jashanmal Book Stores in Bahrain City Centre at 11am.

The book is a fiction based on events that shook Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf during World War II. It brings to light an enemy conspiracy to take over the region and the island’s struggle to cope with it.

The story transports the reader to Bahrain in the 1940s through a nail-biting story of espionage and counter-espionage.

Although a work of fiction, the story is woven around historic facts that are largely forgotten today, but played a significant role in defeating the “evil forces of fascism.”

There will also be a book-signing ceremony today at the City Centre. The book will be available for sale as a paperback at Jashanmal Book Stores.

Land of Two Seas, which is already on sale as an e-book and paperback on Amazon, is earning encouraging reviews.

“I would like to mention that I have led an active social life in this country, being a past President of Bongiyo Samaj Bahrain and a founding member of Bahrain Writers’ Circle. My story, ‘Land with a Soul,’ was adjudged winner in the creative writing contest for Best of Bahrain 2012 and published in a coffee table book by that name in the same year,” Chandan told DT News.  “Beyond the Arabian Gulf, the island of Bahrain is a mystery. Most readers would have read about it because of its pearls and oil, but not much more. Having lived here for 15 years, I have experienced the country, explored its momentous history, and known what had turned it into the epicentre of a conflict that rocked the tiny nation. Those lessons and knowledge have led to the birth of my book, ‘Land of Two Seas,’” he added.

Though a civil engineer by profession, Chandan enjoys writing.

“I took to serious writing over the past three years, it started when a contest was announced to write about Bahrain. I missed the deadline for the contest but I continued writing about Bahrain and that is how I ended up writing this book,” Chandan added.

“It’s a fiction based on Bahrain, it is a historical novel which dates back to 1940. The books brings to light certain facts around the Second World War and Bahrain’s contribution in particular towards the victory of its allies in the defeat of fascism. The book describes the life of the people of Bahrain at the time, both Bahrainis and expatriates,” he explained.
