Humanity felicitated: Prof. Achyuta Samanta conferred with Isa Award for Service to Humanity

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa patronised yesterday, in the presence of Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, a ceremony at Isa Cultural Centre to honour the winner of 2013-2015 Isa Award for Service to Humanity. The award was conferred on Prof. Achyuta Samanta from Odisha state of India for his efforts in social care and education.

Noting that the Isa Award excels as an Arab and global honour in the field of human service, HM the King said: “The award transcends borders and its ultimate goal is encouraging humanitarian services. These are the values that HH the late Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa believed in.” 

“The nominations for the award were reviewed by a panel of international experts, who chose to give the award to a humble, self-made and academic from the friendly Republic of India,” HM the King said. 



Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Premier and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa Award for Service to Humanity Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa said, “The Jury unanimously decided to confer the second Isa Award for Service to Humanity on the founder and Director of the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Prof. Achyuta Samanta Kalinga for his pioneering and outstanding efforts in saving thousands of children belonging to various ethnicities and religions from poverty.”

“He opened up new horizons of hope for the destitute children,” he added.

In his speech, Prof. Achyuta Samanta expressed honour in being conferred with the award by HM King Hamad. He extended sincere thanks and appreciation to the great people of Bahrain for the efforts exerted to eradicate poverty and support marginalised communities. 


He added that the award would be a catalyst for him to carry on his humanitarian work in serving humanity. Samanta dedicated the Award to all poor and destitute children all over the world. The event was attended by senior state officials, diplomats and Royal family members.
