Organic model!
Manama : A major recycling project will be introduced in the Kingdom by next week, it was announced yesterday.
Agricultural Affairs and Marine Resources at Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry will launch, in cooperation with Al Amin Gardens, the largest project to recycle agricultural waste and convert it to organic fertilisers, the “compost.” It’s in conjunction with the establishment of the activities during the Bahrain International Gardens Show (BIGS), set to kick off on February 25.
The project will be unveiled during BIGS 2016 to be one of the fruits of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) which aims to achieve agricultural development and produce products that are free of chemical material to preserve public health.
Agriculture and Marine Resources Undersecretary Shaikh Khalifa bin Isa Al Khalifa said the Ministry and Al Amin Gardens had held intensive talks to launch the Compost project.
He said that compost increases agricultural productivity by 40 per cent and helps protect the environment.
Meanwhile, Al Amin Group Board Member and Industries Director Majed Al Amin explained that compost is an organic matter that is decomposed and recycled as a fertiliser and soil amendment, adding that compost is a key ingredient in organic farming.
At the simplest level, the process of composting simply requires making a heap of wetted organic matter known as green waste (leaves, food waste) and waiting for the materials to break down into humus after a period of weeks or months. Compost is rich in nutrients. It is used in gardens, landscaping, horticulture, and agriculture.
