Bahrain supports Saudi’s decision to halt Lebanon aid
Manama : Saudi Arabia’s decision to totally evaluate its relations with Lebanon was supported by the Kingdom of Bahrain yesterday.
“The move is a result of Lebanon’s recurrent official positions that were totally against the Arab interests. It’s also the violation of the Arab consensus and not in consonance with the great support it is being offered by Saudi Arabia and other GCC States,” Bahrain said in a statement here yesterday.
“Saudi Arabia’s decision reflects its keenness on freeing the people of Lebanon from the confinement of the terrorist group Hezbollah. The terror outfit is monopolising Lebanon’s official stances and steer them away from the interests of the Lebanese people,” it said.
The Kingdom added that the Saudi decisions were considered a necessary step.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia announced that it had halted a USD3 billion programme for military supplies to Lebanon. According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the decision came as response to Hezbollah terrorist organisation’s confiscation of the Lebanese State’s will.
The report said that the last aid, which was recently announced by the Kingdom was a support to the Lebanese army and internal security forces to ensure achieving security and stability of Lebanon and maintain its sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that “the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced the UAE’s full support for Saudi Arabia’s decision to conduct a comprehensive review of its relations with Lebanon.”
