Sitra Health Centre to undergo revamp
Manama : Healthcare facilities in Sitra will get a facelift during the next 12 months, a senior State official revealed.
The 60-year-old Sitra Health Centre building will undergo a set of revamps, maintenance works and expansions.
The announcement was made by Health Minister Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh in her reply to the queries of the area’s parliamentary representative MP Majeed Al Asfoor about healthcare services in Sitra and Nabih Saleh islands in the Capital Governorate.
The Minister clarified that around BD80000 is allocated to implement the refurbishment works, which include the long-awaited reopening of Sitra Maternity Hospital in 2016. She also confirmed that the Ministry is discussing about setting up facilities for long-stay cases in the hospital.
According to Al Saleh, the previous expansion and maintenance works implemented at the facility was done in 2001.
She said the doctors’ rooms at the health centre increased from seven to 11 rooms back then, in addition to the establishment of two additional triage rooms, a diabetes clinic and a chronic diseases clinic.
It is noteworthy that the hospital was established in 1965 and was converted into a health centre in 1980. Located in Abu Al Aish area, near Sitra police station, the facility is designed to serve around 30,000 of the area’s local residents.
However, the Ministry’s statistics in 2015 showed that it covers more than 34,000 residents living in 11 residential blocks.
At the same time, the Ministry recalled that the Nuwaidrat Health Centre in the neighbouring Nuwaidrat village was established in 2010 to reduce the pressure on Sitra Health Centre, which previously covered 21 residential blocks.
