Raft race to help diabetes patients
Manama : The Rotary Club of Sulmaniya is preparing for the 2016 Raft Race to be held at Al Bander Resort on April 15.
The annual Raft Race is this Rotary Club’s major annual fund-raiser event. The proceeds will be used for charity by the Club under their theme for the year, “Beat Diabetes”.
The event is expected to attract up to 40 different teams of eight people each, with both men’s and mixed teams competing on the lagoon and in the open sea.
Started in 1977, the annual Raft Race has raised more than BD 2 million over the years.
A range of charities have benefited from the funds including a special unit at Salmaniya Hospital for children with blood diseases, a workshop for the disabled at the rehabilitation centre and a mobile education unit to promote weight and nutrition awareness.
