Pakistani arrested for selling fake gold at Riffa

ManamaA Pakistani man reportedly conned a Riffa gold shop by selling fake gold, according to court files. The defendant appeared for the first time yesterday before the High Criminal Court, where he pleaded not guilty.

It is said that the defendant exchanged 13 bracelets with some gold items from the shop. He also allegedly provided a receipt as well as copy of his passport to ensure that the bracelets were genuine.

“I was later told that the man, who approached us, was in fact a con artist. He had been implicated in similar cases. When I cut the gold, I found that the bracelets were fake,” the owner of the shop told prosecutors earlier.

It’s worth noting that the defendant sold fake gold pieces to another shop for BD31,000. He was accompanied by another man during his visits to the shops. But his accomplice is still at large. The police officers found that the defendant’s passport was also counterfeit.
