Over 10,000 residents join road safety campaign

ManamaAster DM Healthcare has reached out to over 10,000 Bahraini residents since the launch of its international road safety campaign #iPLEDGE on February 7.

The campaign, launched by Aster Chairman & Managing Director Dr Azad Moopen and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, is part of the group’s CSR initiative.

The four recommendations incorporated in the pledge were to not use the phone while driving, to wear a seat belt, to wear a helmet always and to use zebra crossing, subways and footpaths. All pledges were taken besides a cut-out standee of cricket legend Tendulkar.

The road safety campaign has witnessed the participation of people at  public parks, including Prince Khalifa bin Salman, Andalus Garden, Marina Beach, Arad Reserve, Sitra Corniche and Salmaniya Park. Various schools such as New Horizon School, Bangladesh School Bahrain, Dilmun School, New Millennium School, The Asian School and Tylos Private School have taken an active role in spreading the campaign.

“At Aster, we have embraced road safety as one of our key CSR activities. Thanks to Sachin Tendulkar, we were able to educate a wider audience through the Aster SAFEROADS #iPLEDGE and get them involved not to just pledge, but then practice road safety,” said Dr Moopen.

Commenting on the campaign, Director of Traffic Culture Lieutenant Colonel Osama Mohamed Bahar said, “We would like to thank Aster Medical Centre for joining our constant efforts. Incorporating an admired personality like Sachin Tendulkar is also a great step by Aster as it increases the likelihood of people committing to the pledge.”
