Attempt to smuggle 40, 000 narcotic pills from Bahrain foiled

Saudi authorities recently foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic from Bahrain to Saudi Arabia through King Fahad Causeway.

Around 40, 000 Captagon tablets were found stashed in manufacturer-packed branded coffee packets.

Saudi Customs General Director Dhaifallah Al Otaibi told Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that “the narcotics were seized from a passenger who was entering Saudi Arabia from Bahrain while driving a private vehicle.”

“The customs officer suspected the two personal bags with the passenger and searched them. They contained five large packets of branded coffee. The drugs were found in the coffee packets that were sealed properly and seemed to still be in the original manufacturer wrapping,” Al Otaibi told.

The general director described the operation as a new bid to cheat customs personnel.

However, he reaffirmed the vigilance of customs officers and reiterated the Kingdom’s efforts to combat smuggling attempts by training and developing the abilities and skills of its human resources.

“King Fahad Causeway Customs are taking huge efforts to prevent smuggling banned products or trafficking illegal individuals into Saudi Arabia,” Al Otaibi added, while praising the efficiency of Saudi customs at all entry and exit points (airports, seaports and land borders.)

No comments were available from the Bahraini authorities on the matter.
