BIGS opened

ManamaWith the return of Bahrain International Garden Show 2016 (BIGS), all hues of imagination get ready to assemble here. In a colourful ceremony at the Bahrain International Convention & Exhibition Centre here yesterday, Wife of HM the King, President of the Supreme Council of Women and Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the National Initiative for Agriculture Development (NIAD) HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa inaugurated BIGS 2016. 

The event, to be held till February 28, is being held under the patronage of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. 

Speaking on the occasion, Princess Sabeeka stressed on the importance of supporting and diversifying investments in the agricultural sector for the promotion of the national economy. 

She also highlighted HM the King’s keenness on achieving food security. 

HRH Princess noted that the research by the NIAD had showed that Bahrain could be a successful agricultural environment to contribute in achieving social, environmental and economic progress. She commended the initiatives that have strengthened the work of the NIAD since its inception in 2010. 

Princess Sabeeka toured around the show sections to closely learn about the products exhibited. She visited the main pavilion and awarded the winners of the annual contest of Bahrain Gardens Club. 

Ministers Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza, Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh, Essam Khalaf, Governor of Capital Governorate Shaikh Hisham, ambassadors of UK, France and Turkey were also present. 

BIGS will be opened for the public from today starting from 10am to 9pm. 

The exhibitors are displaying their products, services, landscaping methods, gardening applications, and successful experiences in the field of agriculture in the total area of 7,000 square meters.
