Over 5,500 road violations removed

ManamaOver 5,500 road violations in the Capital Governorate were removed in 2015, it was announced on Tuesday.

Capital General Secretariat General Director Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said it was the result of a comprehensive campaign that included all areas in the governorate aimed at protecting the roads in the capital.

According to Shaikh Mohammed, 5,585 violations were removed from the capital’s public roads. It included street shops, abandoned vehicles and vehicles displayed for sale on public roads, in addition to placing metal poles at public parking places and roads.

He revealed that the authorities removed over 2,488 illegal street shops and towed away 260 abandoned vehicles, while 828 vehicles were removed by their owners and 1,048 other vehicles are in the process of being removed.

The areas included in the campaign were Central Manama, Hoora, Exhibitions and Zubara Avenues besides other highly populated areas.

Shaikh Mohammed called upon the public to report road violations to the secretariat’s hotline 80001855 and website www.mun.gov.bh or by calling 17221415 during the official working hours.
