Expat mom, baby to be evicted for rent due

Manama : A Pakistani woman and her family are facing threat of eviction from their apartment owing to non-payment of rent.

The mother of a four-month-old (name withheld upon request) landed in financial trouble after her husband abandoned her. The man left for Pakistan when she was eight months pregnant. Later she found that the man had another wife in Pakistan and is now living with her in his hometown.

According to the woman, the landlord has recently started threatening the family with eviction from their apartment in Muharraq due to the delay in paying rent.

“My priority now is to find a job," she told DT News.

"I would greatly appreciate anyone willing to help me find a job. “I have worked as a receptionist before. So I am looking for a similar job.”

Meanwhile Discover Islam volunteer Sameera said that the woman lived with her mother and disabled sister.

"None of them has a job. Sometimes she could not provide milk to her baby. So the baby would only drink water.

“Her landlord threatened her with eviction when she delayed paying the rent. I have seen the aggressive text messages from the landlord. Fortunately, a couple came forward to pay the whole BD160 of the due rent.”

Though the issue with the landlord had been solved temporarily, the family is in the dark about their survival.
