Terror case adjourned till March 21

ManamaThe case of 26 defendants accused in connection with forming a terrorist cell was adjourned yesterday until March 21 to hear the defence witnesses.

Only 16 of the defendants are in police custody, as the remaining suspects are still at large and are being tried in absentia.

Earlier, the Terror Crimes Prosecution said the cell was responsible for a number of blasts aiming to disrupt public order and reach terrorist goals.

It said in a statement that the defendants have been charged with establishing, organising and running an illegal outfit in a bid to disrupt the implementation of the provisions of the law and preventing State institutions from exercising their work, and using terror as a mean to achieve their goals.

The cell was also accused of attempting to murder a policeman, providing training on using weapons and explosives, carrying out blasts and deliberate arson, damaging property and making, possessing and using explosive materials.

The defendants were also accused of possessing Molotov cocktails, holding unauthorised gatherings, rioting and hiding convicts.
