Noisy road works give Juffair residents sleepless nights

ManamaResidents of Juffair area are complaining about the “never-ending” road works in the middle of the night, which causes nuisance to them.

Explaining about the harrowing time at night, Carlos, who lives on Road 2407 in Juffair, opposite Al Fateh Grand Mosque, said the residents of Al Fatim Tower were irritated by road works at the doorsteps of their building.

They are annoyed by the time chosen by the contractor of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry to commence the works -- it starts around 10pm and last until 4am, giving residents sleepless nights.

“When the works were ongoing night-and-day on the new Juffair ring road project, no one complained, as it’s a major project. But constructing a speed breaker in the middle of the night and making so much noise is ridiculous,” he groused.

The man, who wakes up early in the morning to go to his work in Saudi Arabia, told DT News that he has a seven-month-old baby and they couldn’t sleep these two nights because of the noise of the heavy machinery used in the works.

Another resident of the nearby Fontana Towers said Road 2468 located on Block 0324 was “unnecessarily” blocked by a construction company for more than one occasion this year, giving pedestrians a hard time.

The female resident, who preferred anonymity, said, “The construction company working on a nearby project acted as if it was vested with the absolute authority to block the street to carry on its project. It had happened before and it occurred three times this month. I hope the authorities would take immediate action and solve this issue.”

These complaints were received after DT News highlighted the issue of a group of local residents living on Road 4125 in old Juffair, not so far away from the US Naval Support Activity Bahrain, commonly known as the American base.

The irritated people complained about the recent road works conducted by the Ministry in the area, apparently “making their lives harder by narrowing down a vital road by at least 3.5 metres, and risking pedestrian’s safety.” No reply was received by the Ministry so far about the issue.
