Court rejects University's case against education council

Manama

The High Civil Court yesterday rejected a lawsuit filed by a private university against the High Education Council's decision to strip its license.

The beleaguered Delmun University for Science and Technology was permanently closed by the higher education's governing body in October 2013 for failing to abide by laws of the country.

Announcing the closure of the university established in 2004, Education Minister Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi said in a press conference, the university had primarily failed to sign a declaration stating its grades were authentic.

He noted the decision to revoke the license was taken after lengthy debates and a detailed review of the situation by the legislative authority.

The university reportedly failed to submit the official and electronic transcripts of its students to the Higher Education Council, which was necessary to pledge credibility of the documents.

It had, of late, come under fire for grade fixing, manipulating exam results and official transcripts, and non-submission of certification credentials to the authorities.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Education yesterday confirmed the civil court's decision, stating the court verdict found the university's case baseless “factually and legally.”

"Canceling the license of the university was made after it failed to comply with the licensing terms, damaging the reputation of the Kingdom's education services," according to the ministry's statement.
