May was never so hot before!

Here is some hot news for you. 

Last month was reported as the second hottest May in Bahrain since 1902, according to the monthly weather summary published by The Meteorological Directorate, Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication. 

The mean temperature of the month was 32.4° C, which is 2.6° C above the long-term normal. 

May 22 and 23 were the hottest days of the month, recording 42.3° C due to warm southerly winds. 

Bahrain experienced scorching temperatures exceeding 40°C five days last month.

The month started off cool recording 23.8° C on May 1 at Bahrain International Airport (BIC). 

Fog patches reported on May 30 reduced visibility to 800 meters at BIC. This phenomenon had not occurred since May 2000 when visibility was restricted to 50 meters at the airport.

Rain was scarce and only 0.1 mm was reported. Note that the long-term mean total precipitation for May was 1.1 mm. 

The mean relative humidity for May was 42 per cent, which goes on record as the second lowest mean monthly relative humidity for May since 1955.

The mean maximum relative humidity for the month was 63 per cent. This is the fourth lowest relative humidity for May since 1955 only exceeded by May 2012 (58pc), May 2009 (61 pc) and May 2011 and 2014 (62pc).
