Man sentenced to two years in jail for hiding fugitives
Manama : The High Criminal Court has sentenced a Bahraini man to two years behind bars for hiding wanted fugitives. The defendant is said to have provided a safe haven to three wanted fugitives for three days despite knowing their legal status.
The trio were implicated in several security cases and were handed down sentences, including life imprisonment. The defendant said earlier that he was threatened by one of the fugitives.
Another Bahraini man was earlier put on trial in connection with the same case, but he was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
“The evidence against the second defendant was insufficient to hold him guilty as it was based on the confession of the first defendant. Investigations also failed to prove that the second defendant had links with the incident. Thus the court decided to acquit him,” a court ruling read.
