Around 8,000 housing units for Bahrainis in 2016

Manama : Around 8,000 housing units are scheduled to be handed over to Bahrainis this year, confirmed Housing Minister Basim Alhamer in a report that will be reviewed before the Council of Representatives Tuesday.

The Minister said that 14.2 per cent of the housing projects for this year has been completed so far.

He also added that requests for housing units filed in 2001 in the Capital Governorate would be handed over by the end of 2018.

“Requests submitted in 2007 in Muharraq will also be handed over in the same year. This also includes housing units’ requests submitted in  2005 in the Northern Governorate and in 2013 in the Southern Governorate,” Alhamer said.

Alhamer said the government is planning to hand over around 25,000 housing units in the years 2015 – 2018. He announced that 3,539 units were handed over  last year and 5,112 are planned to be awarded to citizens next year.

This came in reply to parliamentary queries submitted by MP Mohsen Al Bakri recently.
