Man fined for court contempt
Manama : The High Criminal Appeals Court has supported the BD50 fine that was handed down to a man on grounds of disrespecting the jury.
The defendant is said to have refused to stand up in respect to judges during his trial, where he was facing charges in connection with a riot event.
The man told judges that he did not mean to be disrespectful to the court and claimed that he was sending a message to review his situation inside the jail.
He alleged that the prison administration was neglecting his situation and denied his request to be transferred to another cell.
“I was in a very bad mental state, and nobody was helping me. I requested the prison administration several times to transfer me to another cell, but they rejected it. Thus I wanted to send a message to the court by not standing up,” he told the prosecutors.
“I thought this would draw attention to my situation. I didn’t mean to disrespect the court,” he added.
