Rioter’s jail term commuted on appeal

A rioter had his jail time commuted on appeal.

The jail term of the accused, who was earlier sentenced to five years in prison, was reduced to three years.

He was implicated in a riot that broke out in the village of Janabiya on November 22, two years ago.

Around 20 miscreants took part in the event, where they burnt tyres and closed vital roads to obstruct traffic flow.

The defendant was arrested at the scene by police officers who arrived to disperse them.

He led police to a cache where two firebombs were hidden.
