Woman, boyfriend get 6-month jail for robbery
The Lower Criminal Court yesterday sentenced a woman and a pharmacy employee to six months each in prison on grounds of robbery.
The accused allegedly stole a safe belonging to her sister in-law that contained jewellery.
The woman was living along with her sister-in-law and mother-in-law in the same house.
The other accused was her boyfriend and a CCTV camera installed near the house showed them taking the safe out of the house.
The woman admitted to committing the robbery, and expressed regret in doing it.
“My husband and mother-in-law were sleeping, and so I called my friend, who was working in a nearby pharmacy, to help me move the safe,” the woman told prosecutors.
The man, however, denied knowing anything about the robbery, claiming that the woman had cheated him.
“She told me that the safe belonged to her, but that she had forgotten the password. She requested me to open it, and so I did using a screwdriver.”
He also claimed that they were only friends and that he is a married man.
