Murder case: Court rejects convict’s appeal

Manama: A court has rejected the appeal of a man convicted in connection with a murder case. The 20-year-old Bahraini was earlier sentenced to life imprisonment despite his lawyer’s efforts to prove he was mentally ill. He was found guilty of murdering a 19-year-old and injuring a 16-year-old.

The convict reportedly committed the crime by steering his car towards them when they were coming to him to settle personal differences.

The crash killed the first victim, earlier identified as Ali Al Jadd, who was vomiting blood after he landed on his face. He was later taken by ambulance to Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC), where he was declared dead.

The second victim suffered several injuries and was also taken to the SMC.

The second victim, who survived the crash, told prosecutors earlier that an argument broke out between the 19-year-old deceased and the defendant, and that the victims decided to solve the issue and went to Northern Sehla where the defendant is residing.

The defendant’s act was driven by a grievance against having his picture cropped by the duo from a group image, portraying the three of them.

Prosecution witnesses said earlier that the defendant developed a bad blood with the duo after they uploaded the edited picture on BlackBerry Messenger.

“Before the incident, he sent a message to us: kill or be killed, as he was in a foul mood,” a witness said.

The defendant’s lawyer, on the other hand, underlined earlier that her client must be declared irresponsible of his actions owing to his incessant mental problems.

“My client has suffered a significant amount of harassment because of his appearance after losing an eye in a traffic mishap. He would be dubbed as Masih ad-Dajjal (Anti-Christ) and this has badly shattered his mental shape, forcing him to stop going to school at a very early age,” she said.
