Man denied sons' custody

Manama: The High Shariat Court (Jaffari Department) declined the custody lawsuit filed by a Bahraini man, who was seeking to take two of his sons from their mother after abandoning them for nine years.

The couple separated in 2007, and since then the mother was taking care of their five sons. Her husband, meanwhile, moved on and got married to another woman.

But nine years later, he filed a case, demanding the custody of two of their sons, including a 26-year-old disabled and a teenager.

The mother was also living in a house owned by her ex-husband, and he requested the court to evict her from the building.

But judges ruled against both his requests, stating that the mother was worthy of keeping the custody of all the sons.

“She proved to be more compassionate towards their children. She took care of them all these years, during the time he was busy with his life and he got married to another wife,” the court ruling read.

The woman’s lawyer, Ibtisam Al Sabagh, said the father’s real aim was to get the BD50 pocket money that he was paying to his ex-wife cancelled.

“He wasn’t concerned about his sons or taking care of them. He never considered visiting them, and went on with his life. How would he have time to take care of the disabled boy?” Al Sabagh stated.
