A person who stole a vehicle to rob a cold store had his three months imprisonment upheld.

It was claimed the accused hijacked the vehicle before heading to the shop.

His crime was reported to police by an employee in the cold store. He said the convict came to the store and requested cigarettes worth BD14.

"He honked his car horn and I went to serve him. He ordered cigarettes for BD14. When I handed him the bag, he fled without paying," the employee stated.

The accused was eventually nabbed after officers circulated the registration plates of the car he was driving. And it was discovered the vehicle he was driving was a stolen one.

"I didn't want to steal the cigarettes, but when I saw police I pressed down the accelerator to flee," the accused claimed.

He was convicted on grounds of robbery.
