Preparations are underway for the Third School Mini Olympics, which is due to take place from April 21 until May 5.
This two-week event, to be held for the third successive year, is organized by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education with participation of more than 1,990 students from different private schools.
BOC secretary-general Abdulrahman Askar said the School Mini Olympics is one of the important programmes which the committee intends to have every year and is in line with the directives of the kingdom’s leadership in an attempt to activate community partnership with various sectors of the community.
"Bahrain Olympic Committee seeks to develop the third edition of the School Mini Olympics by bringing the largest number of students from government and private schools," he said.
"This year we managed to get a record breaking 1,992 participants, which reflects the tremendous success enjoyed by the previous two editions of the School Mini Olympics".
Askar stressed that the event aims to promote the concept of public health and creating a competitive sports environment among students, spreading knowledge and physical education among the younger generation as well as the principles of Olympic values and ideals.
The School Mini Olympics also looks to motivate them to practice sports activities and follow a healthy life style.
