One-time winner Al Fakhar won its opening Group B match 2-1 against three-time winner Al Zelzal on the second day of the First Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Games and the Eighth edition of Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Football Championship (Nasser8) last night at the Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.
Al Fakhar opened the scoring in the third minute through Mustafa Yaqoub and Mohammed Isa Ayyad doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time.
Al Zelzal responded in the last minute of the game with Ghanem Jameel netting a consolation goal for the losing side.
Also playing in the same group last night were Ahlam Batelco and Al Zaeem.
Today's action sees the opening round of matches in Group C with Al Maseed taking on Al Ameed at 5.45pm at Khalifa Sports City, followed at 8pm by Forever against Nomas.
The event is being held under the patronage of  Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee.
Today in the opening matches of Group C, Al Maseed take on Al Ameed Zelzal at Khalifa Sports City at 5.45pm followed by Forever and Nomas at 8pm.
The football competition concludes on July 3, while other sports in the games are Basketball which will be held at the Bahrain Basketball Association in Umm Al Hassam and concludes July 1, handball takes place at the Bahrain Handball Association in Umm Al Hassam and concludes on June 23 and volleyball is at the Bahrain Volleyball Association in Isa Town with the final on June 30.
