Call to declare Iraqi group 'terrorists'
Manama : Close on the heels of declaring Hezbollah a terrorist organisation, a Bahraini lawmaker also called for declaring the government-backed Iraqi People’s Mobilisation a terrorist organisation for its ethnic and sectarian-based war crimes against the minorities in Iraq.
The demand of Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Parliamentary Committee Chairman Abdullah Binhowail came within the same week when GCC States and Arab Countries categorised Hezbollah as a terrorist organisation.
“The crimes of the group were documented by local, Arabic and international independent human rights organisations,” Binhowail remarked, adding: “There are no differences between the criminal practises of this group, Islamic State or other terrorist organisations.”
The MP said, “These sectarian groups are viciously targeting the Sunni identity of Iraq and seeking to kill, terrorise and displace innocent people.”
“The Iraqi People’s Mobilisation and its supporters are implementing the criminal policies of Tehran in the region, by eliminating others depending on their beliefs, identities and sects,” Binhowail pointed out.
“GCC countries should file a complaint to the United Nations against the crimes of these groups. They should also take a unified political stance against the silence of the Iraqi Government and its coverage for the sectarian bloodbaths committed by the group,” he urged.
As reported yesterday, Interior Ministers from several Arab countries declared Hezbollah a terrorist group as it is aiming to destabilise security and peace in some Arab countries.
Recently, in a joint statement, Gulf States also declared Lebanon-based Hezbollah militia a terrorist group.
