Bahraini jailed for stealing dead friend's phone

Manama : A Bahraini national accused of robbing his friend’s cellphone after his death has been sentenced to three years in prison. He was also fined BD50.

Another Bahraini man was also implicated in this case, but the charges against him were dropped as he died in jail, according to court files.

The victim, whose phone was robbed by the duo, is said to have died after being pushed by the second defendant (who died in prison) down the stairs during a heavy drinking session in March last year.

The incident occurred after an argument erupted among them when the victim demanded the suspected killer  to discontinue his relationship with his mistresses, according to court files.

An irate second accused shoved the victim, who landed on his head and died on the spot. After his death, the duo dragged the man to a room before the first defendant reportedly robbed his mobile and sold it for only BD2 to buy liquor.

During investigations, the two accused denounced each other. The first defendant stated that his co-suspect had requested the victim to leave his mistresses as he was bidding to have sex with them.

The second defendant had been charged with murdering the man, while the other accused was indicted of robbery only.

They pleaded not guilty before the High Criminal Court.
