Juffair Ring Road project to be completed in three years
Manama : Three years are required to complete one of the major road projects in the capital, it has been officially announced.
Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry said the BD30 million Juffair Ring Road project is set to be opened by 2019 and will reduce traffic congestions along Al Fateh Highway.
Minister Essam Khalaf said in a letter to the Council of Representatives’ Public Utilities and Environment Committee that tenders of the project had been awarded and blueprint of the project was finalised in August 2015.
“The project will include constructing several flyovers on the junctions between the busy roads and other avenues. This will ensure a smooth flow of traffic as Al Fateh Highway has intersections with vital roads such as Shaikh Hamad Bridge (Diplomat Junction), Awal Avenue (Al Fateh Mosque Junction) and Shaikh Duaij Avenue (Exhibition Avenue Junction),” the Minister stated.
The blueprint of the project showed that a U-turn ramp would be constructed at the Diplomat Junction for drivers on Al Fateh Highway. It will also include construction of a left-turn ramp on Exhibition Avenue Junction, allowing drivers to directly enter Juffair without stopping at traffic signals. A tunnel will also be constructed under Al Fateh Mosque
Junction.
His answers came in reply to the committee’s queries about the progress of Juffair Ring Road project. The queries were part of the committee’s discussion of a proposal submitted by a group of MPs to speed up the project and thereby solve traffic congestions in the heart of the city.
