Bahrain SCE to launch Environment Month

Manama : The Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) today held a press conference to launch the Environment Month, themed "Let's Work for a Sustainable Environment", in the presence of the SCE's Chief Executive Dr. Mohammed bin Daina and the representatives of the relevant sides.

Addressing the audience, bin Daina stressed that the Environment Month, which kicks off in March, is an opportunity to re-affirm commitment to preserving the environment and its resources.

"It is also an opportunity to pledge to our kingdom to spare no effort to protect it, and conserve its resources in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development," he said.

The event features conferences, media campaigns, awareness-raising workshops and competition in order to raise environmental awareness and promote the environment culture among all social segments, he pointed out, highlighting the importance of communal partnership in achieving fair sustainable development and changing bad habits in dealing with the environment.

The SCE's Public Relations and Information Director Amina Hamad Al-Rumaihi thanked the 24 relevant sides participating in the Environment Month which, she said, will begin on March 7 and run until the end of the month.

United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO)'s Dr. Hisham Hussain affirmed that the event aimed to raise public awareness on the need to preserve the environment.

Director of the Regional Office for West Asia (ROWA) of the United Nations Environment Programmes (UNEP) Iyad Abumoghli congratulated the SCE President Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Chief Executive Dr. Mohammed bin Daina for their pioneering initiative to include the environment within the sustainable development agenda, praising the slogan of the Environment Month.
